Animations are pretty awful (I'm sure they just got the raw mocap data from their old engine and imported it), but the models themselves are decent enough. It doesn't look bad either, once you disable the ugly postprocessing shit (higher settings have a smear filter and color aberration that's really terrible). Good players get around this flaw by holding one of the buttons, but that's a ridiculous workaround for something that should have been fixed 20 years ago.īut so far I'm having fun because I haven't played Tekken in 12 years - seeing the new characters and so on. A good way to test this is seeing how inconsistent pressing two buttons simultaneously is. There's no universal buffer and the input parsing is really 'dirty', for a lack of a better word. Also, throws are retardedly easy to escape and don't really figure into the gameplay the way the developers wish it did.Īnother pet peeve of mine with Tekken is that the game's buffer system is simply flawed - it's always been this way. People spam 100% safe moves that also launch and lead to huge damage - the crucial concept of risk/reward is completely absent in this series, it's always been this way. So the game devolves into backdash canceling and whiffing moves until someone hits a safe launcher for 60% juggle damage. In VF it was entirely possible to dash forward and cancel it with a block since there was a guard button. If you ever try to dash forward you'll eat a CH to the face, 95% of the time. My beef with Tekken is that it's basically impossible to have a controlled offense. I also don't like the universal high/mid crush moves that every character has. But sidestep feels a lot less effective now (maybe the characters I play have shitty sidesteps), I don't like the Rage Art bullshit but I understand they want to put in comeback mechanics for casuals. It's hard to say at this point, need to play more.

No dickriding, VF is simply the superior game, too bad the series is dead.
